Face Slimming

Many people feel self-conscious about having a “strong” or more masculine facial appearance. This look can be influenced by features such as a broad forehead or a wide jaw. A prominent jawline is sometimes caused by an enlarged masseter muscle. Botox can relax this muscle, reducing its size gradually and giving the face a slimmer, more contoured appearance. This treatment is also used in facial feminisation procedures. Slimming the jawline in this way is commonly referred to asface slimming.

Masseter Botox treatment

Masseter Botox

The masseter muscle is responsible for closing the jaw and is often called the chewing muscle. It can become enlarged due to jaw clenching, teeth grinding (bruxism), or frequent gum chewing. As the muscle strengthens, it thickens, which can widen the jaw or create fuller cheeks. Enlargement often occurs on both sides, though it can also affect just one side, causing facial asymmetry.

Masseter Botox treatment

Botox can be used to treat the masseter muscle, reducing jaw clenching and teeth grinding. This decreases overactivity in the muscle, which gradually reduces in size. As the muscle thins, the face appears slimmer. Treatments usually last 3–6 months, after which you can decide whether to have them repeated.

Jawline slimming with Botox

A wide jawline may result from an overdeveloped masseter muscle due to habitual behaviours or natural muscle overactivity. Botulinum toxin relaxes the muscle safely without affecting normal function. Over time, the muscle becomes slimmer, giving the face a softer, more contoured look. Results typically last around 16 weeks. For optimal outcomes, it is recommended to consult an experienced, qualified aesthetic practitioner.

Masseter Botox treatment

Jaw Muscles

Jaw muscles are essential for chewing and for opening and closing the mouth. In some people, these muscles can become overactive due to habitual jaw clenching, tics, or frequent gum chewing. In such cases, treatment with botulinum toxin may help improve muscle relaxation and facial contour.

Masseter Botox cost

Treatment of the jaw muscles typically costs between £160 and £340. Prices vary depending on the clinic, so it is worth comparing options to find a clinic that best suits your needs.

In my consultation, Ramin took a good look at my jaw muscles and how they were functioning, and took the time to explain my options. He managed my expectations in saying that the botox might not be able to solve the dislocations but should help with the pain. However, it has completely solved everything! I honestly cannot explain what a life changer it has been - going from being in chronic pain and not sleeping due to constant dislocations, to being pain free. Ramin did three jabs in each side of my masseter, and three in each of my temples - none of which hurt and it was over in a few seconds. I appreciate Ramin's commitment to aftercare - he is there if you have any queries. I have already been back for my second round of treatment and now swear by it :) Would absolutely 100% recommend Ramin! Show less »

A one that I have been told many times that would help the lack of elasticity in my jaw and face due to my FND (Functional Neurological Disorder)

This treatment, known as HIFU or High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, is a non-invasive treatment that uses focused ultrasound energy to target and heat deep layers of tissue. It's used for non-surgical skin tightening and rejuvenation by stimulating collagen production, leading to firmer, lifted skin.

I have not had this to prevent wrinkles or anything like that although that is one of the benefits, I have had this done as due to my health lables I am "blessed" to have lack of elasticity and muscle control In my cheeks and Jaw which sometimes does effect my speech as well as constantly looking like a seal with no neck!

With this treatment, it is a natural way of my own body being coaxed into producing its own collagen to help lift and tighten those areas which in-turn will help the areas around my face and jaw muscles not droop as much.
This is only done once a year and it is a fantastic way of allowing my body to do its own thing without having any invasive procedures, the peak of the results will be in around 3-4 months, slow and steady wins the race 🫶🏻

I cant thank Sarah enough for her support and care and making me feel so comfortable throughout the whole thing! Cosmetics isnt just used for sculpting and creating that perfect face or body it also has a huge place in assisting the body's own natural supply source or there lack of in order to heal and repair ✨️ Show less »

Katy is exceptional. I used to see a top practitioner in Fitzrovia in London for botox injections in my forehead and in my masseter jaw muscle to treat bruxism, and Katy is just as professional, knowledgeable and the results are perfect. I have some facial asymmetry and no one has ever got my treatment right first time - except her. Highly recommend!

A More Feminine Face

In recent years, aesthetic medicine has developed into a recognised medical specialty, thanks to professionalisation in the field over the past two decades. Previously, only a few doctors in the UK specialised in injectables, and treatments were mainly used to smooth a few wrinkles. Today, the approach is more advanced. Experienced practitioners consider not only signs of ageing but also overall facial expression and appearance. Many people feel their face does not reflect their personality—they may appear stern, tired, dominant, or unapproachable, even when this is not the case. A strong, square jaw, for example, can create a more dominant or masculine appearance. While this suits some individuals, others, including women and transgender patients, may feel uncomfortable with it.

A wide jawline can often be treated effectively. If the cause is an enlarged jaw muscle, a Botox treatment can make a noticeable difference. Overdeveloped jaw muscles may result from clenching, teeth grinding, excessive gum chewing, or genetics. Relaxing the muscle helps soften the face and create a more feminine contour.

Fillers for a softer, more feminine appearance

Dermal fillers can also enhance femininity. By adding subtle projection to the chin and jawline, the face appears more V-shaped. Although the changes are minimal, the overall effect can be striking yet natural. This approach gently draws attention away from stronger features, creating balance and harmony. The same principle applies to fillers in the zygomatic area—the region between the ear and cheekbone. Adding volume here helps lift the skin, shifting focus upwards and giving the face a softer, more feminine appearance. An experienced aesthetic practitioner can advise you on which treatments may best suit your face and personal goals during a consultation.

Causes of an Enlarged Jaw Muscle

An enlarged jaw muscle can result from genetics or overuse. This may occur through habits such as night-time teeth grinding, jaw clenching, or excessive gum chewing. Teeth grinding and clenching can also be linked to sleep disorders, stress, periods of anger, or the use of alcohol, medication, or other substances. In all cases, the chewing muscles are overactive.

Treating the Jaw Muscle with Botox

Botox is one of several brands of botulinum toxin, alongside Bocouture and Azzalure. An enlarged jaw muscle is often associated with a more masculine facial appearance. During treatment, 3–5 virtually painless injections are placed into the masseter muscle using a fine needle. If there is also pain or excessive tension in the temporalis muscle, this can be treated as well. Jaw function remains normal after the procedure, with only clenching and grinding reduced. The treatment typically lasts 3–4 months and is also referred to as Face Slimming.

Scientific evidence for Masseter Botox treatment

Masseter Botox relaxes the masseter muscle, refining the jawline and reducing tension. Botox blocks nerve signals by inhibiting SNAP-25, temporarily reducing the muscle’s contraction force. It is biocompatible and broken down naturally by the body. Clinical studies confirm its safety and effectiveness (Kim et al., Plast Reconstr Surg, 2016).
