Tear trough filler aftercare

Tips aftercare tear trough filler

Good aftercare is very important as it will ensure a smooth recovery and provide the best possible result. Tear trough fillers are made with hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the body and helps maintain skin structure and hydration.

  • Swelling after tear trough filler: It is quite normal to experience some swelling after the treatment. Fortunately, this usually disappears within a few days.

  • Cooling to reduce swelling: Cool the treated area well after the procedure to prevent swelling from increasing and too much fluid building up under the eyes, which supports the healing process. Always wrap the ice pack in a cloth before applying it to the skin to prevent the skin or filler from freezing. We recommend cooling several times a day for the first 24–48 hours after the treatment.

  • Do not touch: Do not put pressure on the treated area in the first few days and avoid touching it. This helps prevent infections and ensures the filler stays in the right place.

  • No make-up: Do not wear make-up around the treated area for the first 24 hours after the procedure.

  • Do not cleanse with facewash: Do not wash your face with a facewash for up to 2 hours after the treatment. This gives the skin time to calm down and reduces the chance of irritation.

  • Avoid UV exposure: Avoid direct UV exposure in the first 2 weeks after the treatment. Do not use sunbeds and do not sunbathe in direct sunlight. UV rays can damage the skin and worsen swelling.

  • Do not smoke: Avoid smoking for 4 to 6 hours after the treatment. Although it is not compulsory, healing will be best if you refrain from smoking. Smoking can reduce blood circulation and slow the recovery process.

  • Do not exercise heavily: Avoid heavy physical activity and exercise for the first 24 hours after the treatment.

  • Sauna, steam bath and beauty treatments: Do not go to the sauna, steam bath, or have facial beauty treatments for 2 weeks after the treatment. Heat and steam can increase swelling and irritate the skin.

  • Sleep with an extra pillow: Sleep on your back the first night with an extra pillow under your head. This helps reduce fluid retention and swelling.

  • Arnica for bruising: Arnica can help with bruising. Using arnica makes bruises heal faster.

  • Eat healthily: Avoid excessive salty food and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. Salt can promote fluid retention, while fruit and vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals that support the healing process.

  • No alcohol and drink plenty of water: Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours before and up to 48 hours after the treatment, but do drink plenty of water. Alcohol can dilate the blood vessels and worsen swelling, while water helps keep your body hydrated and supports the healing process.

Tear trough filler massage?

After a tear trough filler treatment, it is important to handle the treated area under your eyes with care to achieve optimal results. We recommend not massaging the treated area, as there is a risk that the filler may shift and end up in the wrong place. Always follow your doctor’s instructions, and only massage the area if your doctor has specifically advised you to do so.

When is it advisable to contact a doctor?

Minor side effects such as swelling and bruising are normal after a tear trough filler treatment. However, if you experience more severe or unusual side effects, or if you are concerned, it is always advisable to contact your doctor. Also get in touch if you experience the following:

  • Severe swelling or bruising that lasts longer than a week: Although uncommon, allergic reactions can occur.

  • Severe pain or changes in skin colour: For example, light or pale patches.

  • Signs of infection: Such as a cold sore.

  • Bothersome lumps: If noticeable lumps are still present after 2 weeks.
