Had a very good experience, even as a self proclaimed very nervous patient. The receptionists were polite & welcoming and Dr Wyley & her assistant/technician was brilliant. I cannot speak highly enough of the practice myself based off of my own experience and hope that I manage to get onto their registered NHS patient list next year. Show less »

My dentist, Rachael, was friendly, kind, knowledgeable, and professional. The Receptionists are all welcoming, helpful, and friendly, and the dental technicians/assistants are lovely too.

I'm so happy to have registered with this dental practice. Show less »

I’m sadly not at all surprised to wake up and see the EADT news today about patients being forced to pay for cancelled appointments. My own recent experience with Tavern Dentistry was extremely disappointing.

A couple of weeks ago, I had to cancel an appointment around 45 minutes outside the 48-hour window — a Monday morning appointment that I cancelled first thing on the Thursday morning. I had been called in last-minute to cover a prep school trip because a staff member fell very ill, and there was genuinely no way around it.

When I called to explain, I was met with sheer rudeness and a complete lack of empathy. The reception team were blunt, unhelpful, and spoke to me with all the warmth of an automated system. Despite several attempts to discuss the situation, I was repeatedly refused a conversation with the head of the practice, who seems to hide behind the reception staff rather than address concerns directly.

In the end, I was forced to pay the full cancellation fee, despite having been a patient at this practice since I was six years old.

Gone are the days of Denise Taylor, when the practice felt genuinely welcoming and family-oriented. It now feels like a cold, transactional operation with little regard for the local community or for individual circumstances.

Based on my experience — and clearly from reading other reviews and today’s news — it seems I’m not the only one learning the hard way. Personally, I would not recommend this practice to anyone. Show less »

I cancelled a hygienist appointment with more than two working days notice — first by replying to the reminder email, then by phoning the practice — yet a late cancellation fee was still added. I cancelled a hygienist appointment with more than two working days notice — first by replying to the reminder email, then by phoning the practice — yet a late cancellation fee was still added. The cancellation policy wasn’t made clear when I booked in person, wasn’t stated in the reminder email, and isn’t published on their website. I then heard nothing about this fee for over 19 months before suddenly being contacted and told I owed money, including claims of “repeated attempts” to contact me that simply never happened. The way this was handled caused me a great deal of unnecessary stress, and seeing similar experiences in other reviews suggests this is not an isolated incident. I would recommend others look elsewhere until the practice improves its communication and transparency. Show less »

Due to a problematic history with addiction in the past my teeth are real bad for my age and has been a huge source of insecurity and anxiety when visiting a dentist and I had no anxiety when being seen by the lovely team that works here. Nobody answered the phone.after so many attempts I gave up and sent an email. I know how much a "do not attend" cost for nhs! But how msny times can u call when no one answers. Now I get a call after 3 years, asking for the payment for the dental hygienist appointment I dint turn up for or will be taken to court! I should have driven to the practice to tell if them i couldnt attend or call till they answer! Its in their policy! What is the pont of having a phone if u dont answer. They took me out without asking as i dint see anyone for a year! they only want your money. run away if u can! So unprofessional. Im a health care professional myslef, who works for nhs and this isnt the care i provide, i see people that turn up late for.so.many reasons or cancel if thier car breaksdown etc. Im.not bothering to complain from what others have written. Good luck tavern street! You are utilising the pathetic situation of dental care in this country to make money! Well done😕 Show less »

Bizarre place. Unprofessional. Terrible at dealing with complaints. Frankly, they just seem to not care for patients at all, which is sad when you work in healthcare and provide a service, that without the people, wouldn't exist. Booked and paid in full, in advance, for hygienist. At the old site. They had moved across to the new site by the time I had the appointment. Prices went up. Tried to charge me another £10 for the appointment. Completely point blank refused to discuss it or justify it.

Went for my normal NHS checkup, and was told they wouldn't treat me until I paid the 'outstanding' balance.

Crooks, they know they have you over a barrel as so few NHS dentists available.

Counterintuitive really, as now I will never book a paid treatment with hygienist or any cosmetic dentistry at this practice, only come for free appointments a d have private treatments elsewhere.

Please also be aware that they try and charge for cancelling appointments if under 48 hours (like anyone knows 2 days in advance of they will be ill, but i understand needing as much notcie as possible), even states it in emails.

Please be AWARE they are NOT ALLOWED to legally do this for NHS appointments (unless you are parkway through treatment that would need restarting/cost them) the NHS does not permit charges for missed appointments for check ups.

Report them to Ombudsman if they attempt this, especially if then then refuse you care until it is paid.

Access is terrible too, as a disabled person you're expected to climb 2 flights stairs, no lift, no option to use one of the many empty downstairs rooms. Discriminatory, really. Show less »

Zero stars — and that’s being generous. The glowing reviews must be from the staff, because I can’t imagine anyone else having a good experience here. I was referred by NHS 111 and got a call to book an appointment — brilliant, right? Not even a minute later, another call: Oops, that slot’s gone! But, lucky me, I could still have the exact same time if I paid privately. How convenient.
Compassion? Nonexistent. Professionalism? Questionable. Even NHS 111 were shocked by the stunt they pulled.
This place has been a running joke for years, and somehow they’re still managing to disappoint.
Do better — or maybe just stop altogether. Show less »

My two little girls saw grace this evening for their first appointment since we’ve moved to the area - her and her assistant were just incredible with them, and I couldn’t be happier. Really thorough and informative and spoke directly to the girls about their teeth and how to take care of them, instead of just talking at me - which I loved! Thank you!

I had an appointment scheduled for my 10 month old daughter’s first dentist visit. When I entered , the receptionist downstairs checked us in & said the appt was upstairs so my child would need to be carried up. I explained this wasn’t possible as her buggy needed to come up too- she advised me there was no lift. During this time i heard my daughter’s name being called upstairs. A kind member of staff helped me carry the buggy upstairs, bypassing another buggy coming down the stairs so the whole ordeal took a few minutes as we had to stop and let them pass. Once we were up I was told to wait until called. 5 minutes later the same member of staff informed me the dentist was refusing my daughters care as we were “late” & it meant I’d have to re register her for future care. Firstly, I struggle to understand how I was “late” when I clearly heard my daughter’s name be called whilst in the building. Secondly, I cannot comprehend why having no access to a lift & needing help to get my daughter up three flights of stairs is mine/her fault, and warrants her appt being cancelled. Lastly, I cannot understand why clients are not asked about their accessibility needs prior to their appt, to ensure appt is on appropriate floor level. After being left feeling embarrassed and let down, I sent an email complaint asking to speak to someone. I got an unprofessional & quite frankly rude response informing me they wouldn’t offer my daughter care anymore, insinuating my version of events were untrue & that they wouldn’t respond further on the matter. Our family has been with this practice for over 40 years, but our recent experience has been deeply disappointing. Despite submitting Power of Attorney documentation in November 2024 and requesting that all communications about our mother (who has dementia) come through us, the practice failed to act on this. They continued to contact her directly, leading to missed appointments that were not her fault.

When we raised this formally, the response showed no acknowledgment of their error, no complaints procedure, and no compassion for her circumstances. Instead, they simply removed her NHS eligibility and insisted on private, prepaid treatment.

This lack of accountability, humanity, and understanding for vulnerable patients is unacceptable. A dental practice should do better when entrusted with the care of long-standing patients, particularly those with complex needs. Show less »
