I accepted that and booked a night in a more expensive room.
I asked Booking.com to cancel the incorrect booking and was advised that Best Western would decide whether to allow me to cancel without charge. Best Western would not allow cancellation without full payment. Really? This is considered an appropriate way to deal with a customer? I use hotels a reasonable amount for work and will not use GW again. Show less »

The rooms could do with a bit of a refresher but they are clean and the food is excellent. We do a cruise package, bed, breakfast, a 3 course evening meal, taxis to and from the ship and secure parking which is currently £290. Certainly worth the money and reduces the stress of travelling the same day as embarkation. Highly recommend this option!

Stayed here last night prior to embarking on a cruise.

The hôtel is dog-friendly, and we brought CoCo along for the trip.

Plenty of parking space, and lots of room to store luggage as well.

Room was clean and warm, bed very comfy, and the shower was lovely and hot and worked really well.

Lovely historic building with some truly spectacular gardens as well, the original architectural plans are framed on the wall in the corridor and merit inspection.

Every staff member I encountered was helpful and polite.

Star of the show was the breakfast buffet, both a hot and cold choice and freshly prepared bean-to-cup coffee which was singularly toothsome.

Bacon was properly cooked with a crispy rind.

The breakfast sausage was delicious, thick, cooked to perfection and a proper meaty sausage, what a bonus that was.

Would stay again, smashing place. Show less »

I'd like to express my appreciation to Olena and Roberta in the restaurant, to Simon and Owen the chefs who cooked gorgeous vegan-friendly food (across the four days I had Butternut squash soup, Broccoli soup, Mushroom Risotto, Celeriac steaks, Cauliflower wings), and Mea in the bar who went the extra mile (literally, by running the length of the hotel to get me some oat milk). If you visit the hotel without a car, note that there are are no local shops but it is a very pleasant area). I hope I get to work in the area again and return to the hotel. Highly recommended. Amazing hotel with the friendliest, kindest staff. Really welcoming to your dog. You can eat in the beautiful bar area with your dog. The grounds are extensive and so lovely to explore. A special thanks to Roberta who made us feel so welcome & looked after. We can’t wait to visit again very soon. Thank you Best Western Chilworth Manor.

Not enough Disabled Parking bays. The room was about 100yds from Reception. Difficult for mobility issues. It was also at a corridor end and corner so alot of foot traffic, noisy guests and access to an outside door used frequently by smokers and dog exercisers. This door slammed loudly. We had to keep our curtains drawn as folk could walk right past it.
The first meal in the Bar was a bit of a disaster. My medium steak was raw and my wife's salad was missing items. It was dealt with promptly, two fresh meals served and these were perfect. Show less »

The hotel is ok but it is does not live up to it's promises of a nice country style house hotel. What it is, is a very busy hotel used by cruise ship guests who leave their car there and stay the night before their cruise. For this, I'm sure it's fine but if, like us, you were hoping for a nice relaxing spot for the weekend then you'll be disappointed. As for the 12 acres of beutiful grounds, I don't know where they are but you are essentially in the middle of the university/science park campus.

The communal areas are nicely decorated and pleasant and the bar looks very nice but there is more of a feel of a canteen to it than a nice relaxing country manor bar unfortunately. There is not much on the bar menu, it all comes very quickly and there is heavy stream of people passing through, eating quickly and then leaving for more to come. It's not a particularly nice place to sit all evening and relax but there isn't really anywhere else to go. The hotel pool and spa are not in the hotel building at all but right up past the carpark in what is seemly like a small leisure club in the science park which wasn't very appealing. The staff in general are fine but not particularly friendly or welcoming.

Our room was supposedly an executive room but we found it fairly small and grubby - the carpets have lots of stains on, the bathroom was very clinical with a tiny low bath etc. The beds were awful and uncomfortable and the pillows lumpy. There is no fridge in the rooms, nor do they give you any bottled water and they don't clean during your stay at all - which in all my years of staying in hotels is a new one! Especially at £220 per night. There was also a strong odor in our room of frying/cooking - chips at night and then of breakfast in the morning - we were on the third floor so it wasn't as we were next to the kitchen but we think it was coming through the vents into the bathroom and it was very strong and unpleasant.

All in all, rather like a very expensive Travelodge - as I said, fine I'm sure for a nights sleep before your holiday but not a nice stay for a trip in itself and certainly felt extremely expensive for what it is. Show less »

We had a dog friendly room which was tiny and quite basic. The communal rooms were grand and attractive. The grounds are extensive but somewhat unkempt. Breakfast was a buffet affair with people walking round trying to avoid each other holding plates of food, awful really, but sadly the norm these days. The staff just hang around clearing the tables, when they’d be more engaged with the guests if they took orders . The food was quite nice though. Only one receptionist on duty when we checked in and there was a huge queue. In the morning I took my dog outside for his ablutions and on the way back I stopped to ask the receptionist what the arrangements were for eating breakfast if you have a dog. She was in the process of writing something down on a desk below my line of vision and therefore was looking downward. During our conversation she didn’t once look up at me, which I thought was terribly rude. I wouldn’t stay there again and I only chose it because it was dog friendly, but unfortunately you can only have a small pokey basic room if you have a dog with you, which frankly makes for a really cramped and uncomfortable stay because you need more floor space not less if you have a dog with you. We stayed en route to another holiday destination and that was enough. Show less »

Beautiful building with lovely grounds. Rooms a little basic and dated, but comfortable. Delicious breakfast, with a good choice of food and drinks. Good spa facilities, but unfortunately during this stay there was no hot water in the showers and the jacuzzi was broken. Would definitely recommend for a stay though.

We were greeted with a warm smile by Natalie who was so incredible helpful and went over and beyond to make us feel welcome. We found our room and again the housekeeping staff were in the corridor and went over and beyond to help us with everything we needed. Leanne, from the housekeeping team was beyond wonderful and nothing was too much trouble as she gave our dog some towels as it was raining and we had forgotten to bring one, glasses for our room and so friendly and efficient and all with a huge smile on her face. What a refreshing change to have such excellent service. Thank you so much Natalie and Leanne and team!👏😊🙏 How lovely to be looked after so well!!! Show less »
